Lacquer painting is a painting with natural lacquer as its featuring material. In a broad sense, it refers toall painting artcreated with lacquer. Itusesa variety of natural materials. Besides natural lacquer, there are foil of gold, silver, lead, and tin and hard materials such as eggshell, shell, scabbling, wood chip, etc. As for pigment, mineral yellow, titanium white, titanium blue, and titanium green are usually used in lacquer in addition to vermilion. Moreover, it uses various techniques, such as pattern painting, paste-on-paste decorating, grinding, engraving, inlaying, plotting, ground-dying, coating, etc, creating implicit and restraint visual effects.
I strive to find out the essence of new visual art from life painting and natural scenery, to imitate different styles of objects in natural circumstance in abstract patterns, to present simple visual effect with sophisticated texture of materials, to convert original figure of objects into abstract one, to create complicated and multi-layer graphics, and thus to form the featuring symbol of this grass linen painting series. I hope to present natural and simple visuals through the oldest Chinese materials, thus we can perceive the Nature while relishing subtle details. With western techniques applied in eastern philosophy, we can see images with both chance and necessity and natural pigments and materials combining together, telling you the idyllic life deep in my heart.
